Revolutionary Newark in the Park: History and Remembrance

  • Harriet Tubman Square Newark NJ (map)

Join the Newark History Society for "Revolutionary Newark in the Park: History and Remembrance," a walking tour of Harriet Tubman Square (formerly Washington Park).

We will gather at the Newark Academy monument, where Jim Coe will describe the founding of the school in 1774 and the burning of the school building (then used as militia barracks) during a British raid on January 25, 1780.

Guy Sterling will then discuss the statue of George Washington bidding farewell to his troops at Rocky Hill, NJ by Scottish-American sculptor J. Massie Rhind.
