Dia de Don Juan; George Washington's Spanish Ally
Don Juan de Miralles, the Spanish representative from Cuba to the Continental Congress, visited George Washington at Wallace House in New Jersey in May 1779. Celebrate "Dia de Don Juan" at Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage with readings and discussions of the correspondence between Washington and Miralles during the Revolutionary War. Discover revitalization efforts at these historic sites to emphasize Spanish and Hispanic contributions to the American Revolution as part of Revolution NJ.

1759 Vought House: A Loyalist Homestead in Revolutionary Hunterdon County
This free lecture will cover the fascinating story of the Vought family from their arrival in the colony of New Jersey in 1710 through their activities during the American Revolution and their fate after the war. We'll also delve into some of our recent restoration projects and findings from an archaeological investigation in the cellar of the building. The Vought House, built in 1759 by Christoffel Vought, is on the National Register of Historic Places for its connection to events of the American Revolution and its architectural significance.

Cemetery Preservation in Practice: Protecting Burial Sites from a Grave Future
Join the Monmouth County Genealogical Society in May for a presentation on "Cemetery Preservation: Protecting Burial Sites." This talk will cover the challenges of preserving cemeteries, which are crucial historical resources but face threats from the environment, neglect, and development. Best practices in documentation, conservation, and advocacy will be discussed, featuring local case studies. The presentation will be led by Kristen T. Hohn, a professional archaeologist with a Master’s in Anthropology from Monmouth University and a Historic Preservation certificate from Rutgers, who is actively involved in local historical associations.

East Jersey Old Town History Day
Join us for Middlesex County’s 250th Anniversary of American Independence, featuring a series of programs and events. Explore Revolutionary and Civil War camps, enjoy live music, and watch artisans at work. There will be activities for all, including accessible wagon rides and children's crafts. Local food vendors will provide meals and desserts.
RIDE, the County's shuttle service, offers free transportation between historic sites. The Metlar-Bodine House Museum is open 11 am – 4 pm, with tours on the hour.
Don't miss the re-enactment of the first college football game on May 17, 2025, at 12 noon, 2 pm, and 3 pm, featuring period costumes and authentic gameplay. The game will feature 7-man teams with alumni participants from Rutgers University.

A Celebration of Pinkster!
Join the Bergen County Historical Society as they celebrate Pinkster, a Jersey Dutch Celebration of Spring.
Join BCHS Trustee Muriel Roberts at 1:15 pm and 2:15 pm for a pouring ceremony that honors and remembers the ancestors that have departed.
The Tricorne Dance Ensemble under the direction of dance mistress Denise Piccino will then be dancing around the maypole at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm. They will also be performing a collection of 18th century dances throughout the day. Musical accompaniment for the dancers will be provided by Ridley and Anne Enlsow on the fiddle and hammered dulcimer.
Join the Tricorne Dancers at 3 pm as they invite children to dance with them around the maypole.
At 2:30 pm Marty Campanelli an independent schoolgirl needlework scholar and author will give a lecture that will cover samplers that were created throughout New Jersey from the late 1700s through the mid-1800s, and will spotlight regional styles from various countries, known schools and instructresses, and personal stories about some of the sampler makers.
On display for viewing in the state historic 1752 Steuben House will be a new exhibit of selections of BCHS girls work that includes samplers and needlework.
Be sure to check out The Lost Art Lacers demonstrating their craft of lacemaking in the Steuben House.
Stop by the Westervelt-Thomas Barn to see a broom making demonstration and be sure to visit with the blacksmith on site to see what he is making.
Do not forget to visit the society’s authentic Jersey Dutch out-kitchen where BCHS interpreters will be firing up the outdoor bake oven (weather permitting) to make wheat bread with a variety of butters, jumbles, and a Spanish cake with orange and almonds.
Refreshments including donuts and lemonade will be available for purchase inside the tavern and the gift shop will be open as well.
Activities for families include colonial games, and the society’s QR Code cell phone-based scavenger hunt.
Ticket reservations are encouraged: $12 adults, $7 students, BCHS members free.
Free parking available on site or take the train to the “New Bridge Landing” station on the Pascack Valley Line.
Dogs are permitted on site on a leash but not in the houses.

RevolutionNJ Race Series at the Haddonfield Skirmish
RevolutionNJ presents the Revolutionary Race Series. Join us on June 7, 2025, for the inaugural Haddonfield Skirmish 5K and Family Fun Walk at Croft Farm, starting at 8:30 a.m. (registration at 7:30). Engage with New Jersey’s Revolutionary War history while racing on scenic trails.
This event is part of the larger Haddonfield Skirmish weekend, commemorating the area's role in the American Revolution, including the Indian King Tavern Museum.
Inspired by Jonas Cattell’s run to warn troops, this race is one of six events in the series, alongside others at Monmouth, Princeton, and Red Bank Battlefields.
Participants will enjoy a blend of fitness, history, and community celebration, with an awards ceremony at the Hay Bale Theater on Haddon Avenue and Kings Highway East.

Battle of Monmouth Reenactment
The Friends of Monmouth Battlefield, in partnership with the NJ DEP, hosts an annual battle reenactment. Hundreds of troops camp at the park to recreate battle scenarios. The event features presentations, lectures, tours, and a sutler area. A $10 donation per car is suggested. A food vendor will be present, and handicapped parking is available. Experience the 1770s as the Continental Army prepares to showcase their skills against the British-German-Loyalist Army. Encampments open at 9 AM, where visitors can observe musket cleaning, meal preparations, and soldiers drilling for battle.

Women's Equality Day Festival
Our 4th annual Women’s Equality Day Festival will be held on Saturday, August 23rd from 12-4PM at historic Paulsdale, childhood home of suffragist Alice Paul. This free public event welcomes over 500 visitors annually and features 50+ women owned businesses and organizations from across NJ and PA.
This year’s event will feature free tours of Paulsdale, kids’ activities, including a bounce house and craft making, a beer garden, local food trucks, live music, and 50/50 raffle opportunities.

New Jersey Privateers and the American Revolution
The Fortnightly Club of Summit, owner of historic Twin Maples, received a HEART grant for the event "New Jersey Privateers and the American Revolution" on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025. The event discusses the role of Privateers in the British blockade and features the New Jersey SeaDogs performing Colonial sea shanties, along with artifact exhibitions and re-enactors. Presentations will occur at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets go on sale to the public on August 15 for a nominal fee to support Twin Maples' preservation. The Club will also host a Colonial Tavern night with the Regimental Brewmaster and the Ministers of Apollo after the event.


Homecoming 250
Homecoming 250 proudly presents the Navy and Marine Corps’ 250th anniversary celebration, kicking off in Fall 2025 as the grand opening of America’s semiquincentennial. Taking place in Philadelphia, Camden, and along the Delaware River, this historic event will be the nation’s largest tribute to the military and Veterans—honoring two legendary branches born in Philadelphia in 1775.



Nursery of Rebellion
This exhibition at Princeton University Library honors the 250th anniversaries of U.S. independence and the Battle of Princeton, showcasing archival treasures from the revolutionary era. It features documents and artifacts that illustrate local experiences of the American Revolution, exploring themes of gender, class, race, allegiance, and status. Visitors can gain diverse perspectives on the Revolution's ideals, contradictions, anxieties, violence, and outcomes. Curated by Michael Blaakman and Gabriel Swift, the exhibition is open to the public from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. on weekdays, and from 11:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. on weekends.

National Flag Foundation: Light to Unite
The National Flag Foundation asks all American cities, to the extent possible, to light red, white, and blue as a national evening of unity to celebrate our nation's 250th Birthday. The NFF also seeks to unify our country in these historically divisive times by asking all Americans to fly an American Flag on July 4, 2026.

Chwame Gischuch: Under the Shad Moon
Join the Bergen County Historical Society as they celebrate Chwame Gischuch: Under the Shad Moon.
At 2 pm in the state historic 1752 Steuben House join Teri Hislop tribal member and Clan Mother of the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania who teaches the Southern Unami dialect of the Lenape Language as she gives a presentation about the surge in language revitalization projects as native people reclaim their cultures and traditions.
On display for viewing in the Steuben House will be Revolutionary War artifacts as well as Native American artifacts from the society’s extensive collection.
Primitive Technologist Steve Adams will be speaking throughout the day on The Material Culture of Prehistory. He will be demonstrating the use of stone tools and flint knapping as well as the working of plant fibers.
Stop by the Westervelt-Thomas Barn (weather permitting) to see a broom making demonstration and be sure to visit with the blacksmith on site to see what he is making.
Tour the Campbell-Christie House and visit the gift shop while you enjoy refreshments including donuts, cornbread, and lemonade throughout the day. Honoring Cudjo Banquante
Experience a powerful week of history, art, and culture as Newark honors Cudjo Banquante—enslaved African noble, Revolutionary War soldier, and the city’s first Black entrepreneur. From April 27 to May 4, events across the city will include a grand exhibit opening at The Newark Museum of Art, jazz at Bethany Baptist, a genealogy workshop, opera, films, and more.
Presented by a coalition of cultural, educational, and community organizations, this citywide celebration brings Banquante’s legacy to life through performances, exhibitions, and conversations for all ages.

Bicentennial Reflection
Do You Remember the Bicentennial in 1976?
The Millville Historical Society does and looks forward to the 250th anniversary next year! Many commemoratives were produced leading up to the 1976 Bicentennial and the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
In 1975, reporter Gail Bronson wrote in the Wall Street Journal, “The buy-centennial has begun.”
The program highlights the preparations and celebrations of the Bicentennial, with a focus on Millville’s activities. More than 40 examples of Bicentennial Era Commemoratives will be displayed, and attendees will be encouraged to share their own memories and experiences. The Millville Historical Society is a Proud Partner of RevolutionNJ.
This insightful presentation is by Kathryn Saxton-Granato, Program Specialist with South Jersey Curations LLC, with funding from a grant from the Cumberland County Cultural and Heritage Commission. The program will take place at 2:00 pm on April 26th at the Wood Mansion located at 821 Columbia Avenue. Prior to Kathryn’s presentation, the Millville Historical Society will hold its Annual Members Meeting at 1:30 pm.
Light refreshments will be served. Parking is behind the Mansion accessible from Church Street. The event is free and open to the public. Donations are welcomed.

Join the Friends of Millstone Township Historic Registered Properties as we mark the grand re-opening of the Clarksburg Cultural Center and kick off celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution! Two Lights at the Trent House
Join the Trent House Association in honoring the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s legendary ride on Friday, April 18, 2025. The evening begins at 7:30 PM with a welcoming reception at the historic William Trent House, 15 Market Street, Trenton, NJ. At 8:00 PM, lanterns will be lit in the house’s cupola, echoing the signal that sparked the American Revolution.
Guests can enjoy light refreshments, brief remarks, and receive a free set of collectible cards featuring stories of 22 diverse Trenton residents from the Revolutionary era. The William Trent House is a National Historic Landmark and part of multiple heritage trails, reflecting its deep Revolutionary War history.
