Civic Inspirations
Join millions of Americans this summer for a new tradition for self-discovery and civic upskilling, co-created by Gen Z and cultural institutions. For ways you can participate, check out these civic engagement ideas inspired by our 2025 History Pinned sites.
Cape May MAC
Civic Inspiration: Send a letter to a first responder or veteran
When America joined World War II, Cape May responded quickly by building a lookout tower in only a matter of weeks. Letters of gratitude to those who react fast in crisis situations – such as first responders or veterans – can help support those who are there for us in times of need. To send a message, you can find the address for your local hospital or veteran’s association, or connect with Operation Gratitude.
Macculloch Hall Historical Museum
Civic Inspiration: Read a local newspaper
Home to the largest single collection of American political cartoonist Thomas Nast, Macculloch Hall Historical Museum understands the power of local journalism. Reading local news sources can help us learn more about our communities and develop our opinions about local issues and policies.
Morven Museum and Garden
Civic Inspiration: Sign a petition for a cause you support
As the home of a signer of the Declaration of Independence and revolutionary female leaders, Morven Museum highlights the importance of adding our names to support the causes we believe in. Contact a local organization to see if they have any petitions currently circulating or visit Change.org to search for petitions you support.
Museum of Early Trades & Crafts
Civic Inspiration: Attend a local library board meeting
The Museum of Early Trades & Crafts' home, the James Library Building, began as a free, public library in 1899 for Madison's “public enjoyment and benefit.” Today METC continues its connection to the community through its artifacts, programs, and exhibits located in the library's original stacks. Public libraries are often governed by an independent Board of Trustees. By attending an upcoming Board meeting you can share what types of resources you would like your library to provide in your community. Find your local library here
Tuckerton Seaport and Baymen’s Museum
Civic Inspiration: Join a beach or wetlands cleanup
Tuckerton Seaport and Baymen’s Museum shares the stories of the land and people who inhabit the Jersey Shore. Joining a beach or wetlands cleanup can help protect Jersey’s important waterways. It’s also a great way to meet your neighbors and make your community safer and healthier. Contact your local Parks Department to learn more about cleanup opportunities in your area or check out upcoming events from nonprofits like Save Coastal Wildlife and Clean Ocean Action.
