TAVERN TALKS
Tavern Talks is the winner of the Leadership in History Award from the American Association for State and Local History. The program features conversations with historical reenactors in New Jersey breweries, focusing on Revolutionary War-era perspective, bringing participants face-to-face with the past. During the event, participants sit at a table with friends and strangers, reserving one seat for our reenactors. With the help of a booklet containing the goal of the program, guiding questions, and necessary historical context, participants meet and talk with the reenactors. Over the course of the event, reenactors will cycle around the room, akin to historical “speed dating,” allowing participants to hear different perspectives and experiences about the past. At the end of the program, all attendees are asked to reflect on the experience in a group share, discussing what they heard, learned, and decided.
